It was 2012. I was a school-going girl and an extrovert until that date. As time passed, I gradually became an introvert to the world around me but remained an extrovert to myself! So, it was I who felt nervous and hesitant to share all the ongoing thoughts in my mind.
I felt so exhausted and concerned about how to bump out all the ever-running thoughts in my mind! In simpler terms, I just wanted to free myself from all the stuff I was constantly thinking about. We humans always have our own stuff that we do not want to share with anyone else — except ourselves! I once thought it would be fine if I alone spoke out what I was going through — to yell when I was sad, to shout out when I was joyful, to learn when I failed, to be stable when I reached a milestone. But that didn’t seem to work; it still felt like something was left inside.
So, I thought of connecting my thoughts to a pen and putting them down on paper. That’s where it all started! I gave myself a way to free myself from the overwhelm. I made room for journaling in my little world, which then became a beautiful and significant world!
What actually is my kind of journaling? From the moment I open my eyes to the moment I close them each day, I put every feeling onto paper. Of course, it’s not just paper — it’s my eternal companion, with whom I can share anything and receive only happiness in return. Irrespective of the situation I’m in, I generally write everything. It’s not that I only write when I am sad or happy, but every moment!
So, why do I write every moment? I started questioning myself why I note down even ordinary situations. Then I realized it’s so that I can learn to deal with situations better, under any circumstances, rather than just physically going through them. What I’m trying to convey is this: sometimes there are ordinary moments where your presence might not feel important, and you may feel unspecial. In those moments, instead of letting them pass by, journaling helps you learn not to feel low or just ordinary.
Journaling not only frees you from overwhelming thoughts but also closes the gap between your inner self and outer self. It’s not just about writing your thoughts but also connecting to your inner self. I believe there must be a purpose behind everything you choose to do in life. There are so many benefits you gain from journaling!
Let me share some of the insights I have observed in my daily life through journaling:
-
It helps you carve yourself into a beautiful personality.
-
That warmth you feel when you cast out all your thoughts is unique and makes you love yourself more than usual.
-
Sharing everything without hesitation makes you a stable person — calm and composed!
-
It definitely makes you a more conscious and considerate person.
-
It helps you achieve your goals, meet deadlines, and boosts your self-confidence.
-
It helps you explore yourself, know every corner of your being, and strengthen what you lack.
-
The biggest ability it gives you is tracking your emotions — you’ll be able to distinguish what triggers your positive feelings and what triggers your negative ones.
-
It helps you find purpose — the what and why.
-
It improves your writing and communication skills and strengthens your memory significantly.
-
You become consistent and dedicated, which is the perfect key to succeeding in any task.
Upfront, journaling is not only about sharing your personal thoughts and emotions. It can be of any type — a food journal, dream journal, travel journal, to-do list journal, and many more.
It is not just a piece of paper and a pen; it is the invisible companion who will be with you regardless of circumstances. It is your unpaid therapist!
Hope you find my experience useful. Give yourself some time to explore your inner self, buddy! π
